Find, measure and verify operational waste

Waste Opportunity guides a real observation from one of the eight Lean wastes through quantification, cause investigation, countermeasure selection and before/after verification. It keeps operational improvement visible without turning every minute released into an automatic cash-savings claim.

From "that looks wasteful" to an evidence-backed opportunity

A useful waste observation is specific enough to measure. Record what happened, where it happened and how often. Classify the observation by waste type, quantify the current condition, investigate why it occurs, choose a countermeasure that addresses the cause and return to the process to verify the result. ORDREL keeps that chain in one guided workflow rather than treating waste as a checkbox exercise.

One workflow across all eight wastes

Use the same evidence path for Defects, Overproduction, Waiting, Non-utilized talent, Transportation, Inventory, Motion and Extra-processing. The waste category describes what you see; it does not prove the cause. When the next question is why, move into the appropriate root-cause or process tool instead of guessing.

Measure the loss that actually exists

Example: a material handoff creates 12 minutes of waiting and occurs 6 times per shift. The observed waiting is 72 minutes per shift. After a countermeasure, the wait is 5 minutes per event: 30 minutes per shift. The verified change is 42 minutes per shift of capacity/time released. Cash savings are not established unless actual financial evidence shows a realized change in spending or revenue.

Use the right next tool

Defects -> Pareto to focus the biggest contributors; Fishbone/5 Whys to investigate causes; Mistake Proofing when prevention is the right countermeasure.

Waiting -> Process Map to see queues and handoffs; Time Study when repeated time observation is needed; OEE when the loss is specifically equipment availability/performance/quality.

Overproduction -> Takt/Cycle and Process Map to compare actual production behavior with demand and flow.

Motion / Transportation -> Process Map and Time Study where path, handoffs or repeated movement must be measured.

Value -> ORDREL Value when assumptions and financial impact need a dedicated calculation.

Pareto · Fishbone · 5 Whys · Mistake Proofing · Process Map · Time Study · OEE · Takt/Cycle · ORDREL Value

Try three successful Waste Opportunities free

Verified Free accounts include 3 successful Waste Opportunity completions over the lifetime of the account. Drafts, edits and previews do not consume a use. Safety has its own separate 3-case allowance. After the included Waste completions, Plus continues Waste Opportunity Intelligence for $9.99/month or $99/year. Teams is $49.99/month or $499/year for qualifying current released team/workspace access. A subscription governs access; it does not create savings or verify an opportunity.
